The Lucas Center Empowers the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs

For many entrepreneurs, the hardest part of building a business isn’t getting started. It’s figuring out what comes next.

That’s where the Lucas Center for Entrepreneurship steps in.

Based in Brunswick, the nonprofit organization supports entrepreneurs from startups and side hustles to small business owners and nonprofit leaders at every stage of their journey. The Lucas Center offers the tools, perspective, mentoring and support needed to move forward with clarity and confidence.

“We meet people wherever they are,” said Ande Noktes, CEO of the Lucas Center. “Whether someone has an idea they’re just starting to explore or a business or nonprofit that’s been operating for years, our goal is to help them get unstuck and figure out their next move.”

Through a mix of immersive programs and one-on-one coaching, the Lucas Center provides a different kind of entrepreneurial support: one that goes beyond technical instruction to focus on mindset, strategy, and problem-solving.

Among the Lucas Center’s offerings is its Idea Bootcamp, a no-cost, one-day program designed to take participants from concept to a fully formed startup plan. The Lucas Center’s Idea Bootcamp is an award winning program recognized as one of the top five community engagement programs in the world for entrepreneurs. Another free offering, ACCELER8, helps existing businesses and nonprofits develop the business skills they need to grow and scale.

Across all of its programs, the organization emphasizes practical, actionable guidance paired with a supportive peer and mentor network. To date, the Lucas Center has served more than 1,250 entrepreneurs across Coastal Georgia, helping turn early ideas into viable businesses and supporting existing ventures as they grow.

“By providing access to mentors, educational resources and a community of fellow entrepreneurs, along with connections to potential sources of capital, the Lucas Center is an incredibly valuable partner in Glynn County’s economic future,” said Ryan Moore, president and CEO of the Golden Isles Development Authority.

Part of this partnership with the Golden Isles Development Authority includes a new microloan program designed to help businesses access the capital they need to start or grow. With loans ranging from $5,000-$25,000 and regular financial mentoring, entrepreneurs who aren’t ready for traditional small business loans will have a new tool to support their success.

While many business-support organizations focus on technical skills, the Lucas Center takes a more holistic approach, working alongside entrepreneurs to better understand the problems they’re solving and what may be holding them back from reaching their goals.

By helping entrepreneurs think differently about their businesses, the Lucas Center equips them with the tools, resources, network and confidence needed to make smart strategic decisions and pursue long-term growth.

A key part of the Lucas Center’s mission is accessibility. All core programs and one-on-one coaching are offered at no cost, removing financial barriers that can often prevent aspiring entrepreneurs, small businesses, and nonprofits from seeking support.

That commitment extends beyond programming. This year, the Lucas Center received a $30,000 grant from the Terry Thomas Foundation to fund dedicated workstations across its three locations, providing entrepreneurs with access to computers, internet connectivity and essential tools needed to launch their ventures.

For many aspiring business owners, that kind of access can make the difference between an idea and a viable business.

By investing in entrepreneurs from early-stage ideas to growing enterprises the Lucas Center is helping to build a more resilient, opportunity-rich local economy across the Golden Isles.

“One entrepreneur told us, ‘I used to go to other business classes to learn about finances or marketing,’” Noktes said, continuing, “‘After coming to the Lucas Center, I feel like I’ve learned how to be a CEO.’”
